WHY

Ton und Nichtton

rastermusic/noton is a label cooperation for electronic music based in germany. in 1999 both artist labels rastermusic and noton.archiv für ton und nichtton merged and the foundation stone for a co-work uniting sound and art design with strong attention to scientific sequences was laid down.

Apart from lots of interesting audio work, you can also purchase the book which accomanied Carsten's recent show at the Shirn Kunsthalle in Frankfurt.

Keep it surreal

And while we are on the subject, here are some stills from Buñuel's "Un chien andalou", co-written by Salvador Dali.

And if you want to see that famous scene, here it is.

Reassuringly Elephants

After the (IMO rather disappointing) iceskating priest spot comes Frank Budgen's latest for Stella Artois.
Without a doubt the most compelling thing to interrupt your program, for once an ad makes me feel like it's actually serving a purpose beyond selling the product.
Drawing on Buñuel, this is a wonderfully crafted 90 seconds, complete with one of my favourite pieces of music, Valse Sentimentale, performed by the amazing Clara Rockmore.
Budgen is going from strength to strength and seems pretty much in a league of his own now.

I remember these from my childhood... What on earth were they?

PS: Just found this

Dolls

Takeshi Kitano has long been one of my favourite directors, but for some reason, his 2003 film Dolls had so far escaped me.
Until last night that is and if you have not seen it, you should. It's a work of amazing beauty, graced with stunning costumes by Yohji Yamamoto.
Buy it.

For Yoox's 5th Birthday, the internet fashion store has invited Bernard Wilhelm as a special guest. Major props to yoox for that! One of the most exciting designers to come out of Antwerp in the last few years.

June 06, 2005

So in the last few days we have had posts about Girls and Guns, a few cars, people making music out of lemons, a Synthesizer watch (!) and one quite offensive music video...
Guess how many boys are posting here...
See.

Bumper Stickers

Nothing is foolproof to a sufficiently talented fool.
Before you condemn someone, walk a mile in their shoes. Then you're a mile away and you have their shoes.
We must silence those who oppose freedom of speech.
When everything's coming your way, you're in the wrong lane.
You are right where you belong. Behind me.
Veni, Vedi, Visa: I came, I saw, I did a little shopping.
Earth is the insane asylum for the universe.
Don't play stupid with me. I'm better at it.
Was today really necessary?
Too many freaks, not enough circuses.
Just because people don't understand you doesn't make you an artist.
Love is grand. Divorce is fifty grand.
There are two important things to remember about surrealism. Frogs, power tools, and the Lincoln Memorial.
I came here with nothing, and I still have most of it.
Even if you win the rat race, you're still a rat.
Pass carefully. Driver chews tobacco.
O.K., I take it back. Unscrew you.
The more people I meet, the more I like my dog.
I don't have a license to kill. I have a learner's permit.
I wasn't born a bitch. Men like you made me this way.
Not all men are annoying. Some are dead.
Better living through denial.

Wroom, Wroom - it's the sound of da Police!
