I've probably seen fewer Martin Scorsese films than anyone, yet all of a sudden I'm intriqued by his work. I just watched Taxi Driver last night for the first time, believe it or not. By the way I'm 52 years old, so I'm not some high school kid who's just getting into films. I can see a very big similiarity between Taxi Driver and The Big Shave other than the obvious spattering of blood. The camera work and the use of the musical sound track are some how similiar. The begining of Taxi Driver has the appearance of a documentary with a more sinister undertone and is almost like a conceptual art film which is very true I think of The Big Shave. The Last Temptation of Christ was also quite odd and conceptual in many parts. I'm not sure if words like odd and conceptual are the right way to describe these films but there is a thread of strangeness that finds its way through these films which can only be attributed to Martin Scorsese's style as a film maker.
